A Veteran's spouse can help obtain a VA loan, but in most cases cannot qualify for the loan without the spouse. The person who has been issued the Certificate of Eligibility must be on the loan.

The VA loan guarantee is available to 1) the veteran, 2) the veteran and spouse (jointly) and 3) the surviving spouse of a deceased veteran who has not remarried.
