My Husband is a vet but his credit is not very good, my credit is good, would we be able to get a VA loan? Also we currently have a home which is owner financed which we wish to keep as rental property

What would my Husbands credit score have to be to be able to qualify for a VA loan? Odessa,TX | Aug 18th 2010

VA doesn't specifically have any credit score requirements, however, you'll find most lenders are requiring a 620+ middle credit score. If there is a lender still underwriting to the true VA standards, it's probably going to be USAA, since VA is pretty much all they do; you might want to try them out. Also, there won't be any problem with you keeping the owner financed property, as long as you can still qualify for both homes under your specific circumstances.

In the current lending environment, 620 would be the standard.
