Since I'm in the loan business, I tend to perk up when I hear a story on the news or online about housing or real estate. As you know, it has been a steady stream of negitivity for a long time. Yet, most people who apply with me qualify for the home loan they want. In fact, the majority of Americans who are interested in buying a home will qualify. However, that is rarely mentioned.
I do understand the media model. Bad news and sensational news, sells. I remember learning in high school creative writing class that all stories need a conflict. Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Animal, and Man vs. Man. The way of the news media is simply that concept with dramatic flair. We claim we like positive stories, yet a story of an airplane crash will draw more viewers than a story of someone doing something well and helping others.
This brings me back to my title. With the 24 hours of news dramatically displaying negative things, we really should make the effort to shrug that off and focus on what we can change, and keep that positive spin in our lives. We cannot change the fact an earthquake happened somewhere, but we can help our friend who needs a favor.
So when I say yes, you will likely qualify for a loan to help you buy the home you want, I mean that. If you have had a credit issue in your past, there is still hope. Even if you do not qualify at this time, a good loan officer will give you a plan of steps to take to get you to qualify in a short period of time. Just ask. There is no shame in trying to improve you.
Think positive. All real estate markets are local and in South Dakota, ours is pretty good.
