![]() H.R. 3221 Tax credit or Interest Free Loan?Thursday, September 18, 2008 - Article by: Hans Bruhner -
The recent housing bill, H.R. 3221, the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 passed by Congress is a bit confusing. It is intended to spur home ownership while giving 1st time homebuyers a tax credit for purchasing a home. Below I have outlined the information needed to try and sort out who qualifies and for how much. The caveat to the bill is that is initially a tax credit to be paid back interest free over 15 years or upon the sale of your home. If you sell your home and don't have enough equity to repay the loan, it is forgiven. |
