In Northern Illinois, there is the straining metropolis of Chicago.  This part of Illinois is ethnically diverse, sophisticated and bustling with activity.  Then, there is Central Illinois.  This is an area of mostly prairie lands.  The State Capital of Springfield is located here as are cities such as Peoria, Champaign-Urbana and Quincy.  Thirdly, there is Southern Illinois This part of Illinois borders the Mississippi River and the Missouri town of St. Louis.

Illinois Tax system involves multiplying the earner’s net income to a flat rate.  Chicago is the largest city in Illinois, the largest city in the Midwest, and the third largest city in the U.S.  Chicago hosted the World’s Fair in 1893, and is widely regarded as one of the ten most influential cities in the world.  Chicago is home to the U.S.’s tallest building, the Sears Tower with many neighborhoods to choose from.

Springfield, the Capital city of Illinois also has a lot to offer.  Famous former residents of Springfield include Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.  The town is mostly on a flat plane, along with the surrounding countryside.  The city began as a haven for trappers and traders and later had a valuable role in the Civil War.  The city is based on a grid street system which makes it easy to navigate.

Peoria is the largest city on the Illinois River.  It is considered a good measure of the average American city. It is often used as a test market. There is an entire list of historic places in Peoria.  And in the Southern Illinois area, is East St Louis directly across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO. The city’s waterfront – the Gateway Geyser is the tallest fountain in the U.S.A.  East St. Louis’s colorful history included destructive tornados, a railroad strike, a riot and being named an All American City in 1959. The city has begun to see redevelopment and renewal in the most recent times.

For those who are so inclined, Metropolis Illinois might be a place of interest. This city is close to the Ohio border. Bearing the same name as the fictional city in the Superman comic book series, this small town boats a museum, a statue, and a festival all in homage to the Super Hero.  If you are looking for the Midwestern lifestyle, with a choice between big city or small town life, then Illinois might be the State for you to purchase a home in.
