West Virginia is also home to little towns with great significance. Harper’s Ferry is a little town of less than five hundred people. It is home to a National Historic Park that showcases how this little town had a lot of history. This is a town that the Appalachian Trail goes through directly. In the 1700’s a man named Robert Harper established the little settlement and a ferry to get settlers across the Potomac. The little town was visited by both Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. The town served as an Armory for the U.S. Army for a time, and was the site of a major battle in the Civil War. Today, most of the town is encompassed in the National Park, and many of the older homes that are still standing are registered Historic Places.
