Since much of the State receives little precipitation (ten inches of rain or less per year), the land is unsuitable for farming.  However, the terrain is home to many ranches.

Wyoming is home to Grand Teton National Park and the Teton Mountain Range.  Part of Yellowstone National Park is also in Wyoming. This State has a surprisingly low unemployment rate. Mining (for mineral extraction) and tourism are the main driving forces behind Wyoming’s economy. Beef, grain, hay, and wool are the State’s main agricultural output. Over ninety percent of the State is still considered rural land.

The capital city of Wyoming is also its most populous. Cheyenne’s population is estimated at around fifty five thousand residents. Cheyenne is located in the southeastern part of the State. Cheyenne got its start as a Railroad town. One of the original locomotives to pass through the area now resides in a city park.

The second largest city in Wyoming is Casper. The city is located next to a mountain with the same name, which is the northern part of the Laramie Mountain Range.  Casper was mainly founded by land seekers. Casper is a center for banking and commerce in Wyoming. Oil refining is a large part of the economy for this city as well.

The smaller city of Laramie is an excellent place for outdoor enthusiasts. Laramie also got its start as a railroad town. Initially the town truly had a ‘wild west’ feel. The unruly element was later dealt with, making the town more livable. Laramie is home to the State’s only University, which helps it achieve a college town feel. The downtown area is filled with historic buildings, shops and cafes, which give it a more ghost town like feeling during the summer.

The town of Cody, Wyoming may be small but it has a rich heritage.  The city is named after William Fredrick Cody – also known as Buffalo Bill. This little town is located in Northern Wyoming and has a population of less than ten thousand residents. The State has a center dedicated to him. Rodeo is also a huge part of the culture here, with both professional and amateur rodeos being held here every year. If you are looking for a place with wide open spaces that has the feel and adventure of the wild west, consider becoming a homeowner in Wyoming.
