16 U.S. service members competing in 2016 Summer Olympics

The 2016 Summer Olympics are in full swing and of the 555 members of Team USA participating this year in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, 16 of them are currently serving in the armed forces. Representing the Army, Navy and Air Force, we have service members participating in several events, including rowing, shooting and track and field.

Here's a quick look at a few of the participants:

Hillary Bor: This Kenya-born Iowa State grad joined the Army to earn his citizenship. He is a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete program and will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the Olympics.

Paul Chelimo: Also from Kenya, Chelimo holds a degree from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and is now a Specialist in the Army. He is competing in track and field in the 2016 games.

Glenn Eller: This Texas native and four-time Olympian graduated from Auburn University and after a tour in Afghanistan is now a staff sergeant in the Army Marksmanship unit. He will compete in the double trap event.

Vincent Hancock: Competing in the skeet shoot in the 2016 games, Hancock is a Florida native and two-time Olympic gold medalist who graduated from Troy University with a business management degree.

David Higgins: Born in California, Higgins graduated from the Air Force Academy with an economics degree and will compete in the riffle shooting event.

Sam Kendricks: An Army Reservist from Mississippi, Kendricks broke an Olympic trials record in the pole vault when he cleared the bar at 19 feet, 4.75 inches.

Edward King: This Naval Academy graduate and current Navy officer will be the first Naval Academy rower to compete in the Olympics since 1988.

Shadrack Kipchirchir: An All-American runner who graduated from Oklahoma State before enlisting in the Army, Kipchirchir will compete in the 10,000-meter race.

Leonard Korir: As an eight-time NCAA All-American with a degree from Iona College, this Kenya-born runner will compete in the 10,000-meter race.

Dan Lowe: A Sgt. First Class in the Army Marksmanship unit, this Washington-born sailing enthusiast will compete in the 10m Air (riffle shooting) in the 2016 games.
