Unanswered texts sparked Veteran's mobile app company

Buying from Veteran-owned businesses is one of the best ways to say, "thank you" to the men and women who have served our country. That's why we take the time to highlight veteran-owned businesses on this blog from time to time.

Today, we're looking at Ignore No More, a mobile app developed by Sharon Standifird, who served in the military for 11 years before becoming a teacher. It was unanswered texts that lead Sharon down her entrepreneurial path.

Ignore No More was designed by Sharon to keep an eye on her kids. She was tired of calling or texting her children and not getting a response.

"I started talking to my husband about the situations we were having with the family," she said in an interview with FreeEnterprise.com. "The real frustrating and repeating one was that our kids were not answering our calls or texts when we needed to touch base or have them do something for us. And so I decided to start my own company and get in to developing apps."

Ignore No More is a mobile app that will lock your child's smart phone remotely and not allow him or her to use the device until they return your call.

"If your children ignore your repeated calls and text messages to reach them, you simply lock their phones until they call you back," says the description of the app. "When you lock your child's phone with Ignore No More your child has only two options - he or she can call you back, or call for an emergency responder. No calls to friends, no text, no games, notta' until they call you back. When they do, you can unlock their phone if you choose to do so."

The app was an instance success and the self-taught app designer created her company, Montaineer Technology Ventures. Ignore No More is her most popular app. In addition to being an 11-year military veteran, Sharon is also a mom, wife and active Crossfitter.

"I really have enjoyed the process, and I have some other app ideas that are related around family issues," she said in the interview. "Ignore No More has also opened doors for us, because we realized that this can be used in many different arenas. We're hopefully going to take its main feature into new arenas too, including businesses."
